My name is Michelle Lester Bell. I have been working professionally as a full spectrum birth and postpartum doula since 2007 (DONA trained), and also have worked as a nurse's aide and midwife's aide throughout this time. I currently live in Fayetteville Arkansas, and I have worked with "non-traditional" families since the beginning of my journey as a birth worker. (It helps that I am queer and have a relatively queer family.) I have been lucky enough to help families and individuals of all types, and have learned there are many assumptions made throughout health care that aren't quite right. Some families have multiple spouses, others have people who are more than one gender (or have no gender at all), and just because you have a uterus does not make you a woman. I firmly believe my job is to help be the island of calm, to reach out and pull people up and let them catch their breath. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you are looking for a birth or postpartum doula that is trans* friendly or if you have any questions. Email me at Merriemelodyxx@gmail.com.

I am LGBTQ Friendly & I do my best to live my life as an ally. Hello! My name is Torrey Carlson. I am a DONA trained birth doula located in Long Beach, CA serving the Los Angeles/ Orange County areas. My business is Wiggle Womb Birth Services, my website is wigglewomb.weebly.com. I love birth, babies, and people however they come, however they look. I believe in body and sex positivity and I believe that we are spiritual beings having a human experience. I'm here to support you through the positive birth experience you desire, however that looks to you.
My name is Vera Casey. I am DONA trained, a lactation educator, and am experienced in supporting trans birth, alternative familes and surrogates. I serve the San Diego and Orange County, CA. As a doula, I do my very best to support the birthing journey. Birth is intense, and many things can come up (mostly emotional, some physical) that feel bigger than what we can face at the time. By offering unwavering confidence in your ability to birth your baby, and constant physical and emotional support, not only for you, but your partner and family as well, I contribute to everyone's sense of well being. The sense that this birth is a normal, natural process, and while challenging, it is certainly achievable. Having someone who absolutely believes in you is crucial to any challenge, especially birth. Ideally, a baby is created by two people who love each other, and this child, and the birth experience should be as intimate and fulfilling as the relationship that brought them there. I do my best to support that experience, while not getting in the way of it. I can be reached at Vrlevitt@pacbell.net or by phone at (714)222-5191.

We are Sierra and Skylar, also known as Luna Doulas. We are full spectrum doulas supporting the Denver and Boulder areas of Colorado. As full spectrum doulas, we provide educational, informational, physical and emotional support to all people for all reproductive choices and experiences. We recognize that our country's medical systems, hegemonically gendered language and cultural understandings around all things birth can be very limiting can feel exclusive for LGBTQIA folks. We are hoping to help fill that gap. This philosophy imbues all of the work we do: we are pro-choice, which means that we trust in your ability to make the decisions that are right for you and your family from a place of informed consent; we are feminists; we are committed to inclusion and intersectionality; and we practice radical empathy which allows us to offer truly non-judgmental support. Angela created Love and Liberty in 2012, serving Families in DC, NoVA and Nearby MD. Birth and postpartum supports were the original foci of her efforts and they continue to be key service areas. Shortly after founding Love and Liberty, Angela began to feel a pull to acquire additional skills in supporting families affected by unique needs as well as bereavement situations. In 2014, Angela discovered Stillbirthday, a beautiful organization that provides support to grieving families and also trains doulas to support birth in any outcome. She has since been honored with Stillbirthday’s Birth and Bereavement Doula certification. Over the years, Angela has come to be deeply experienced in military, LGBTQI, foster care and adoption, surrogacy, adverse diagnoses, bereavement, multiples and high profile support. For more info please see www.loveandlibertyservices.com. (Families that are in need of bereavement supports but are located outside of the DMV area are also welcomed to inquire as select bereavement services are available via distance support.)
Hello and congratulations on your growing family! My name is Ashley Medley, and I serve the DC area. I am a trained birth doula and have been practicing for about a year, still gathering my materials to submit for official certification. I've been trained by midwives, OBGYNs, childbirth educators (natural and hypnobabies), very experienced doulas, as well as the new parents themselves who I feel like I learn from all the time. When I'm not attending birth, I'm a public health researcher and board member of a sexual assault prevention organization. I'm extremely passionate about creating and promoting a culture where we trust the person giving birth and their body. I follow your lead. You set the tone for your birth and your baby helps guide the journey. It's the two of you who are doing the work along with your partner - I see the rest of us are there to support you. I'm a firm believer in every family deserving a doula. If you want one, we can make it work. Here is some more about me and my services: http://ashleymedleydoula.weebly.com.

I currently work with Polaris, where I advise service providers to identify and respond to human trafficking. I also teach Women’s, Gender, & Sexuality Studies at American University. I'm Annie Kocher, a Certified Full-spectrum Doula (DTI) and Lactation Consultant. As a birth worker and advocate in Berlin, I try to embody inclusivity in my speech and actions. The families I serve often find me because they are looking for support in their exquisitely diverse experiences of birth, breast- or chest- feeding, family structures, identities, relationships, housing, and needs. Being a queer person connects me from the heart with queer experiences of life in all forms. I take my role as an advocate seriously, trusting in the autonomy of my clients, listening intently to which birth rights have meaning for them, and supporting their ability to birth with these rights. I do this by holding space for confidential conversation, listening, attempting to make no assumptions, and using non-violent communication strategies with other care providers to increase the safety of any birthing environment. You can get in touch via my website, www.arkdoula.com, and Facebook page, www.facebook.com/arkdoula.

I'm Alexandra Garcia, an NYC-based postpartum doula pursuing my DONA certification. My approach is inspired by my training in Traditional East Asian Medicine. In this tradition, the postpartum period is seen not just as a recovery period, but as an opportunity to optimize health as the body realigns for parenthood. I partner with a Chinese-style herbalist, Christopher Peacock, who specializes in working with LGBTQI families. Together we support parents in reaching their postpartum goals (ie, restore uterus size, increase/decrease lactation, recover from surgery). If you chose to work with us, I will provide one free informational visit during your pregnancy. Postpartum, Christopher will visit you for an herbal consultation; I will be on call to answer questions for up to 4 weeks; and I will come to your home up to 3 times weekly to offer healing meals and provide standard doula services. You can find out more about our practice at www.GarciaAndPeacock.com.

Taryn Goodwin, located in Oklahoma City, is a Student Midwife and Apprentice, Certified Monitrice/Midwifery Assistant (OMA), Birth Doula CD(DONA), APPA-C Placenta Arts Specialist, Association of Placenta Arts Co-Founder, Dancing For Birth Certified Instructor, and Lactation Counselor. Taryn is also the owner of The Thrive Mama Collective, Oklahoma's premier birth collective in the Plaza District. Throughout the pregnancy and births of my children I developed an immense passion for pregnancy and birth. I believe that birth is a sacred event that deserves to be nurtured and respected. I also believe that birth for most women is not a medical crisis, but instead a inherently safe, holistic event. I trust that women are born with the inner wisdom and strength to birth their babies without intervention. However, I also know when to appreciate medical interventions and pain medicine in labor when they are necessary or requested. As part of your birth team, my intention is to help you idenfity your own birth wisdom and provide support and resources to help you have your ideal birth. Contact me at Taryn@SpiritedDoula.com.

My name is Claire Lewis, and I am just getting started in doula work. I am working to achieve my certification with Birthingway College of Midwifery in Portland, OR. Hello, my name is Heather Lobitz and I am a full-spectrum doula offering support to families in the Portland / Vancouver metro area. As a DONA certified birth doula and DONA trained postpartum doula, I provide open-minded and open-hearted support for families before, during, and after birth. I passionately believe that when people feel empowered during the birth of their children, they can begin parenthood with joy and confidence. I foster this empowerment by meeting the physical, emotional, and informational needs of the laboring person and their support team so they can make positive birth memories together. My approach to doula work honors the truth that there is no “right” way to give birth, only ways that support the specific needs, wants, and intentions of my clients. This respect for the diversity of birth was gained through working with a variety of families and situations including: single mothers, LGBT couples, multicultural families, families using reproductive technology, natural birth, medicated birth, waterbirth, spontaneous labor, labor induction, planned and unplanned cesarean birth, midwife-attended births, and physician-attended births. If you are interested in exploring the possibility of having me as your doula, please email me at heather@portlanddoulalove.com.

My name is Pierson Rievley and I'm currently being trained under the organization of New Beginnings. I live in Chattanooga, TN and my mission is to help support the mother through her birth and then the family around her. My goal is not just to support the mother but all possible types of situations. In the world we live in today we have to be open to changes even if they've been around us for decades in hiding. Families in surrogacy, families with no gender, families with many genders, and families that are adopting, along with the couples having their own children deserve the same equal care by doctors. Care should not be decided on due to the color of their skin, their culture, or their gender. Contact me at chattadoula@gmail.com.

My name is Erica Angert. I am a certified postpartum doula living in Richmond (certified through DONA, Doulas of North America). I'm straight and married, but my dad was gay and I have always felt particularly drawn to fighting for equality for sexual minorities. I've worked with three lesbian couples in the years since I started doula work, and I am eager to work with all types of families and help them feel supported in the unique ways they need support after having a baby. Postpartum doulas help with recovery from childbirth, breast/bottle feeding and infant care, processing the wonderful but crazy changes that come with having a new baby, seeing the whole family (including any older children) through this transition to their new roles, and doing light housework such as laundry and dishes. If you'd like to know more about my services and how I can help you, please email me at ericathedoula@gmail.com, call 225-978-1507, or look for me at Facebook.com/EricatheDoula.
